Artwork

Janice Higdon

Although she grew up in Hot Springs, Janice Higdon finds inspiration for many of her artworks from memories of month-long annual visits to her grandparent’s large, historic, bed and breakfast home on Cape Cod.

Janice has been interested in creating artwork for over thirty years. What has evolved is her unique style she calls ‘tesserae’ – or little pieces. She uses texture and color to express her representation of God taking the small broken pieces of our lives and restoring them, ultimately, into a work of art. Working in acrylic and mixed media, the broken pieces, aging, changing texture, color and light in each of her works, is representational of the journey we all have in common and her passion to create.

Having raised three daughters, Higdon began working for a national artist paint company and designed test art projects. As a result nine articles were published in national magazines featuring her artwork.

In 2003, she began to paint full time and to exhibit in galleries in Arkansas and Tennessee.
