Cassie Edmonds
Cassie is a Texas artist and is self-taught. She found her passion after spending years in other art media – hand-hooking rug making, beadwork and textile art. Nine years ago she took a workshop at a local museum in East Texas and learned the basics of mosaic artwork. She later discovered the passion she felt for glass mosaic pieces.
Primarily she finds inspiration from her surroundings as well her travels to Turkey, Greece, Thailand, China and Mexico. The art of Matisse, beautiful tapestries and gardens have all influenced her artwork. Today almost everything she sees she can envision in glass.
Her artwork is created on wood panels, table tops, and “re-created” found objects. She has given new looks to musical instruments, wood carvings and terracotta sculptures. Her commissions have ranged from backsplashes to fireplace surrounds.
She hand-cuts sheets of stained glass and further incorporates colored mirror glass, vintage rhinestones, dichroic glass and millifiori glass.
Recently several pieces created by Cassie were chosen for a book, Mosaic Renaissance: Reviving Classic Tile Art with Millifiori by Laurel Skye, due out in October 2009.
